I have been feeling burned out since approximately November or December 2023. In hindsight, the first evidence lines up with the time when leaders at my employer were almost certainly planning layoffs and the firm's biggest reorganization ever. Those changes became public in May of 2024.

My own feeling of burnout surges some days and subsides on others. One of the signals I have been vaguely tracking to notice my burnout is difficulty sleeping. Normally I have no trouble sleeping. More specifically, I wake up a lot, but fall back asleep easily. The 3am to 5am window seems to be when I process work stress. Once my brain is spinning on work I can only rarely get back to sleep.
